Candela wins German Design Award 2018

GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2018- EXCELLENT PRODUCT DESIGN 

We are very happy for Astep as Candela designed by Francisco Gomez Paz has won the German-Design-Award in the category Excellent Product Design

Continuing the long tradition of Scandinavian flame luminaires, Candela brings this classic product typology into the 21st century with the newest technology, turning the heat of a flame into electricity. In Candela, four heat collectors working together with a large aluminium heat sink provide the necessary temperature difference to create electrical power. This generates sufficient power to provide ambient LED illumination while storing excess energy that can be used to charge mobile devices.

Jury statement

The Candela is an exceptional LED luminaire that generates its own light by burning lamp oil. The product’s striking design aesthetic is reminiscent of a traditional oil lantern – and thus the Candela’s form also communicates the link it establishes between the traditional and contemporary.
